As volunteers, mentors, tutors, and educators, in ways that are visible and in ways that will never be known, Northwestern Memorial is a community that cares.
Northwestern Memorial is a corporate sponsor of Chicago Cares. For the third consecutive year, Northwestern Medicine® displayed its strong commitment to the community by sending the largest team of volunteers to participate in the annual Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon. This year, 758 employees, physicians, friends and family members from Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation and Lake Forest Hospital comprised the largest team in the history of the 19-year event.
Northwestern Memorial sponsors an annual Adopt-a-School program in collaboration with Jenner Academy. Through this program, employees have the opportunity to buy and donate holiday gifts for the grade school students. Last year, more than 600 gifts were donated.
Each year, Northwestern Memorial enthusiastically gives to the United Way and March of Dimes campaigns. Through this campaign, hospital employees can support a wide range of charities.
In 2005, a donation of almost $300,000 to the United Way made Northwestern Memorial the leading hospital contributor in the area. We also received the March of Dimes Diamond Award as one of the city's top 10 fundraisers, with employees contributing more than $50,000.
Employees also participate in walks to raise money for a variety of causes including heart disease, cancer and AIDS. Medical staff and caregivers volunteer throughout the world in disaster and medical relief efforts. Staff come together to support disadvantaged Chicago schools through the Adopt-a-School program, offering funding and other services to assist student development and health.
Members of Northwestern Memorial’s leadership team serve on a variety of boards and advisory boards of local community organizations.
